| Gareth Pugh + SHOWstudio Everyone loves Gareth Pugh. I'm not sure who wears his clothes, but that's the practical side of me speaking. We need more Gareth Pugh's in the fashion world. I don't care if nobody ever wears a single piece he's made -- although the stuff looks great on the models -- he's an innovator and is pushing fashion in a new direction that has and will inspire legions of other designers and artists for years to come. Unfortunately, though, Pugh doesn't get much press stateside and I'm too cheap to pay the sky high prices for the cool London magazines. Thank God for SHOWstudio. SHOWstudio has just launched the latest in their series of fashion videos called Insensate. Featuring the maverick and morbid creations of fashion's favourite enfant terrible Gareth Pugh, our latest fashion film project Insensate is a white-knuckle excursion into a gothic fairyland conjured up courtesy of Nick Knight's cover story for October's Dazed & Confused. Indebted to the menacing monochrome dreamscapes of H R Giger, Aubrey Beardsley's inky swirls, and a hint of Edgar Allen Poe's sinister fantasy, Insensate's centrepiece is a four-minute foray into the darkest fathoms of fashion imagination courtesy of Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben, animating Pugh's abstract, graphic collection to stunning life against a soundtrack specially created by Matthew Stone. Alongside this mesmerising short fashion film, Insensate showcases a gallery of Nick Knight's editorial images created for Dazed & Confused and from Midnight UK Time on 12.01.08, an exclusive, individually-numbered giant image download available for a limited period of 7 days. Read more here. Check out the video and stills from the project. It really is gorgeous and the music is spot on. And don't forget to check back for the GIANT digital download. |
