All Points West Music lovers mark your calendars: the Coachella folks' East Coast indie music festival All Points West tickets go on sale at noon on Friday, 04.03.09. Click here on Friday to get your tickets. Like Coachella this time around, the promoters are aware of the economy and have a layaway plan, which rocks. There are two options in this plan. Read all about it here. Thank god for All Points West. It's the only really good, large scale music festival in or around New York. I went one day last year and it rocked. Liberty State Park is amazing and this year's lineup is equally as good. I hope you're sitting down for this one: Headlining: Beastie Boys, Tool, and Cold Play headline with Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MSTRKRFT, Q-Tip, Ra Ra Riot, Heartless Bastards, My Bloody Valentine, Gogol Bordello, Tokyo Police Club, the Ting Tings, Crystal Castles, Echo & the Bunnymen, MGMT, the Black Keys, Silversun Pickups, We Are Scientists, Lykke Li, Akron/Family, and many many more. Click here for the full line up. It's a bit dizzying, I must admit. A few things I should point out about last year that weren't so great: 1) getting to and from Hoboken was a bit of a problem. The PATH train is only so big and cabs are few and far between, unless you go at weird times. Be prepared. I suggested to a friend that he rent a hotel room in one of the hotels in JC or Hoboken, which is great, if you can afford the addded expense. 2) the drink situation. Chances are you'll want to drink. Last year, they coralled drinkers (98% of the people there) into little walled off areas that closed 2 minutes after the last band went on. Not good. 3) Waiting waiting and waiting. To get into the drink area, you had to wait for about 30+ minutes to have your ID checked, which they could have done at the door. The guys checking IDs, let's just they're not the brightest or quickest guys in the world. You are in Jersey, after all. Overall, there was a lot of waiting...to get in, to get food, to get drinks, to get into the drink area, to go to the bathroom. I hope they learned something last year, but I doubt it. I won't stop me from going, but at least now I know. |
