Histories de Parfums

It takes a lot to come between me and my Comme des Garcons Series 3: Incense cologne. I've been wearing the same scent for 2+ years now and haven't even considered straying, until now.

There's a line out called Histoires de Parfums that I've been sampling scents from for the past few days and they're pretty amazing.

Since its conception in 2000, boutique fragrance house Histoires de Parfums has earned worldwide acclaim for its superior techniques and exceptional ingredients, sublime presentation built on intellectual inspiration, and creations that are classic and yet refreshingly iconoclastic.

Founded upon the belief that each sensation tells a story and that stories connect our world, Histoires de Parfums uses characters from history, literature, and myth as the foundation for their liquid library. Drawing on such figures as the Mata Hari for her air of eastern mystery, George Sand for her earthy rebellion, and Jules Verne for his adventurous mind, the central series of seven perfumes is named for the year of each individual's birth. 1740, for instance, based on the Marquis de Sade, is an appropriately notorious mix of bergamot, cardamom, leather, cedar and other intriguing essentials.

Next in the Histoires de Parfums series is a self-referential study in color, scent and simile which results in three contradictory and clever reimaginings of archetypal aromas: Noir Patchouli, Blanc Violette, and Vert Pivoine. Lush and faceted, this trio injects unrivaled excitement into the traditional arena of "Woodsy", "Fresh" and "Powdery" notes. The final two volumes are the cult classics of this collection; Ambre 114 uses that many raw and rare components to make up its far eastern sensuality and the equally erotic but more modern 1969 tips its hat to the sexual revolution of that iconic year.

Check out their site for more info. The current line has women's, men's and unisex scents in it, which makes it perfect for everyone. And, let's just say although I'm more of a eau de cologne than perfume guy, I know quality when I smell it. A few drops of these lasts forever.

The line can be found in over 100 stores, including Takashimaya, Corso Como, and Matches.
