Pleasure Principle + assume vivid astro focus + Deitch I dragged myself out of the house last night and went to Deitch in SoHo to catch a van to the Deitch LIC space for a special performance by assume vivid astro focus, followed by dinner and drinks on the patio. First, though, I want to talk about the shirt I wore. I've loved these guys for a while, but haven't given them a shoutout on the site yet: New York designers Pleasure Principle. They do men's and women's clothes, including a line of tees for both. For guy's tees, the cut, the fit, the fabric and the prints all rock. I want to wear the one I have every day, but have to hold myself back. And their signature scoop neck is perfect -- not too boring, not too crazy -- and their graphics just f*cking rock. Checkout the styles for S/S 08 and the collection from S/S 07 to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Constraction, which opened lats night in the Grand Street Space, was cool. Os Gemeos installation -- Too Far Too Close -- in the Wooster Street space is sick. I love their work. The assume vivid astro focus performance was, uhm, interesting. Not sure what it was all about to be honest. The installation -- Absolutely Venomous Accurately Fallacious (Naturally Delicious) -- on the other hand, is amazing. I wish I'd made if over for the opening night performace. To fill a space that big so well with a mix of styles of art is a feat in and of itself. My favorites: the abstract neon light pieces. Like nothing I've seen before: abstract composition with the most electric combination of light colors. And the dinner was perfect. The gigantic patio behind the space has a full-on view of Midtown and is right no the water. The night couldn't have been better. Now that I've made it out there once, I think I'll be going back a lot more. |
