Food For Thought: Artichoke, Mudd, + Momofuku On my way back from the Radar launch party last night, there was no line at Artichoke. Anyone who's passed this place or tried to get a slice knows that's unusual, as the line's usually 10+ deep as it was on our way to the party. We pounced and I got my first specialty artichoke-spinach slice. I'd heard that it's amazing, but a bit "too rich" for a whole slice. I couldn't disagree more. While I probably won't get it every time I go there -- and since I don't like to wait, I won't be going as much as I'd like to -- I'll definitely go back for more. Earlier in the week, a friend treated me to dinner at Momofuku, where I haven't been since last summer. Again, I've reached the point in my New York career where more than 5 people in line equals me turning around and going somewhere else. I can be pursuaded to stick, though, around and am glad I did. Not only did I have an awesome unfiltered sake -- I didn't know there was such a thing -- but we ordered a new chicken dish Chang and crew are making that is unbelievable. I can't find a new menu anywhere online, so you'll have to take my word for it. The chicken is moist in a way that I can't put into words. It's like they raised them underwater or something. Finally, it's summer. So I have to do my yearly "go to Mudd for their homemade chipwich" spiel. If you know me, you've heard me talk about this at least 10 times. Talking about it keeps me from eating one every day. From their menu: "Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich Two of our giant Chocolate Chip Cookies stuffed to order with your Choice of Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream" It's enormous and you'll thank me. Or you'll hate me when you can't keep yourself from going back for more. In honor of the chipwich, watch the video for Ice Cream by New Young Pony Club. It's fat free. |
