Blindness + Burn After Reading If you haven't seen The Dark Knight, do it now. I'm not a fan of the Batman series or any superhero movies, but after hearing the unanimous rave reviews, I had to check it out this weekend. It's not just Heath Ledger's posthumous brilliance that makes the film amazing -- although his performance is show stopping -- but the parts, the sum of the parts, and everything in between. It's hands down one of the best movies Hollywood has ever made. Period. During the 20+ minutes worth of previews, I saw a few films you need to know about. First up, the film that opened this year's Cannes Festival -- Blindness. From the director of City Of God and The Constant Gardener -- two of my favorites from recent years-- comes a "dramatic thriller film that is an adaptation of the 1995 novel of the same name by José Saramago about a society suffering an epidemic of blindness." It stars Julianna Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Danny Glover. Although it was not well-reviewed by the jurors at Cannes, the premise is hot, the cast is amazing, and the way it was filmed looks pretty hot. Read the Wikipedia entry here and watch the trailer. Up next, another star-studded film (Pitt, Clooney, McDormand, Swinton, and Malkovich) Burn After Reading, the new one by the Coen Brothers. I don't know what to say other than watch the trailer. Brad Pitt is hysterical. It's like he died and was reincarnated as a comedic actor. Maybe he always was and I've never seen his movies?!? I don't think so. Don't forget to read the Wikipedia entry and checkout the official site. This is a must must must see. |
