BLAG Mag Blogs by Sarah J EdwardsMy friend Sarah -- half of the genius behind London-based magazine BLAG -- will be sending us weekly updates of life on the other side of the pond, including party hopping, fashion updates, and celebrity run ins. Check it out! Life can throw some seriously strange curve balls at you. Recently I'd say I've had more than my fair share, but through the challenges and difficulties I could never have imagined how much fun I could have in between. This summer Sally (who runs BLAG with me) and I wanted to see the return of the classic aftershow party. Dancing on tables and laughing until the sun comes up, so we decided to hook up with our number one party spot Bungalow 8 and put on some aftershow parties for our favourite artists performing at Somerset House, UNKLE, Lupe Fiasco, and We Are Scientists. And before you say it, Justice would have been in the mix but had to travel out of town right after their gig and their response to missing out is unprintable – well kind of! The parties finally happened last week and were exactly what we wanted and more. Filled to the brim, hot, fun and mischievous. James Lavelle came along to not only his own party but to Lupe's too and stayed until the very end. Kelly Rowland showed everyone how to really do the wop. Lupe danced on the sofas – which was a pretty brilliant sight. Jodie Harsh threatened to – but didn't actually – bum rush the decks, Har Mar Superstar was just super cool and We Are Scientists are probably one of the nicest bands we've met. We roped in our good friend Geno to DJ - now I want to spill the beans on his name. Really he's called Gareth and one rather drunk night while talking to the NME said 'D'you know?' which was mis-heard and subsequently mis-printed as 'Geno,' so he adopted the name. Why don't I have any rock 'n' roll stories like that? Sagatiba supplied the magic ingredient to the much loved Caipirinha and Buffalo Trace flavoured the Mint Julep cocktails.
And the one thing we didn't expect at all, Sally and I ended up out of retirement for Lupe's party as substitute DJs and it was a lot of fun – still got it. Being out until 4.30am on a Tuesday morning is not so much fun when there is tonnes of work to do. Mid-week things got more serious and I met with a very renowned gallery owner to discuss a solo show of my photography. I got the go ahead, so I'll keep you posted on what, when, how and why. I am so excited! Later in the week more fun was had, I love doing what I do as it is real life social networking – for want of a better expression. Sally's West Coast based friend called to say he had a friend in town from LA and could we take him out for a night. We happily obliged and took the very entertaining Mike McGuiness and his friend Jack Osbourne back to our favourite haunt. I got talking with Jack about being way too urbanized and how I miss the outdoor life I had as a child. He decided there and then to return the favour for the night out and invited Sally, Mike, and I slacklining in Regent's Park - something I'm not entirely sure is legal in a Royal Park. So a rainy friday evening we wandered through central London passing everyone heading for an end of the week beer and found a quiet spot in the park. The slackline was set about three feet above the ground between two trees and we all took it in turn to hop up and see how many steps we could take without falling. It might sound easy but trying to balance on the equivalent of a giant rubber band is far from it. I was terrible, but it did fuel my need to be out of the city and I'm considering training up, so if Jack's offer to take part in next year's Adrenaline Junkies is real, I'll be ready! To seal the evening we all had a good cook out at home, Sally as chef and the perfect way to end a hectic week. Today we spent the afternoon in the rather la-de-dah Beaconsfield Old Town in Buckinghamshire for business meetings and tomorrow I'm consulting to a TV production company on a series that may not be too far from my late teenage years. Until next time... xoxo (not gossip girl) Don't forget to checkout BLAG's site and their blog.
