Johnathan Richman + The Modern Lovers

If you're a fan of The Modern Lovers as I am, you'll definitely want to get tickets to the upcoming show by former lead singer of the band Jonathan Richman. He's playing at The Concert Hall (it's part of New York Society for Ethical Culture) on 10.14.08 at 8pm. Tickets went on sale this morning.

"Jonathan Richman is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. In 1970 he founded The Modern Lovers, an influential proto-punk band, but since the mid-1970s has worked either solo or with low-key, generally acoustic backing. He is known for his wide-eyed, unaffected (and occasionally near-childlike) lyrical outlook, and music that, while rooted in rock and roll, often draws on influences from around the world."

I hope when he plays solo, he plays his own songs, as well as some of the hits from The Modern Lovers.

Checkout this video for I'm So Confused by Richman from 1998. I've never heard him sound like this: it's kinda of David Byrne meets Bryan Ferry. It rocks. Don't forget to listen to True Love Is Not Nice and I Was Dancing In A Lesbian Bar.

And let's not forget these classics from The Modern Lovers: Roadrunner, Pablo Picasso, Girlfriend, and I'm Straight, which happens to be my favorite ML track ever. Listen. You'll see why.
