| Better Off Dead + Tompkins Square Park I want my two dollars! That's possibly one of my favorite lines from any movie ever. (Another is from La Bamba: "Smells like fish, tastes like chicken.") Classy, highbrow stuff. That's how I roll. The 1985 classic Better Off Dead is playing 07.30.08 in Tompkins Square Park. Gates and festivities begin at 6pm. The movie begins at sundown. I honestly can't wait. It's been forever since I've seen it. "Better Off Dead takes place in the fictional town of Greendale in the state of Northern California and centers on high-schooler Lane Meyer, whose girlfriend Beth dumps him for the arrogant and bullying captain of the high school ski team, Roy Stalin. Lane cannot get past this rejection and decides that death is the only way out of his misery. His half-hearted attempts at suicide, however, always manage to leave him alive, with comedic consequences." It's classic 80's and classic John Cusack. Watch the trailer here, read the full Wikipedia entry, and brush up on some memorable quotes. The rest of the summer lineup includes: The Graduate (08.13), Stand By Me (08.27), The Toy (09.10), and The Shining (09.19). Grab your friends, get some food at the Hummus Place on St Marks, a bottle of wine, and kick back. The park at night in the summer is amazing. |
