| Joy Division, The Documentary I blew it. A new Joy Division documentary -- aptly called Joy Divison -- was released on 05.02.08 in the UK and it doesn't look like it's made its way to the US yet. I had the chance to see a screening at the New Museum on Sunday and totally forgot about it until it was too late! "On June 4 1976, four young men from ruined, post-industrial Manchester, England went to see a Sex Pistols show at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall. Inspired by the gig that is now credited with igniting the Manchester music scene, they formed what was to become one of the world's most influential bands, Joy Division." "Featuring the unprecedented participation of all the surviving band members (now known as New Order), Joy Division examines the band's story as depicted through never-before-seen live performance footage, personal photos, period films and newly discovered audiotapes." Read the full snyopsis and watch the UK trailer. Read this review by a JD fan and movie afficiando, who thinks this documentary is okay, but Control was better. Looks like this one screened at the Toronto Film Festival last Fall and was scooped up by the Weinsteins to complement their other JD movie Control. Perhaps they've held its US release so it wouldn't steal Control's thunder?! I just want it to be released so I can see. If anyone has info, drop me a line. |
