Nice Collective F/W 2009

It's always good to have inside connections. I tried several times to get to the SoHo loft where SF designers Nice Collective were showing their Fall/Winter 2009 collection last week for market week and managed to get in just before they took it all down to see what's on the horizon.

For starters, the concept behind the collection is based around the idea of a time machine, which perfect to follow last season's VOIX DE VILLE collection that featured a crazy side-show vaudeville party/run way show that was the highlight of men's fashion week. If you missed that party, you really missed out. It was nothing like any other fashion week event I've been to in my New York tenure. Leave it to the boys from SF to mix things up.

Back to the F/W 2009 collection. For starters, it's a full-on collection. Perhaps I wasn't paying attention before -- which is highly likely -- but this time around Ian and Joey have out designed even themselves. By my estimation, it's their biggest and best collection yet.

The tees, which have always been some of my favorites, remain strong with their simple, yet powerful graphics, minimal color ways, and fits that flatter. Click here to see a few styles from last season on Hejfina's site to get an idea of their aesthetic.

What I loved most this time around were the sweaters (great knits, amazing colors, and cool patterns), the henleys (one of the styles is a must-have for every guy in every color), and the jackets. True to the Nice Collective design aesthetic, but constantly evolving, the cuts and fabrics are just keep getting better and better. You'll have to see the collection in person and touch the pieces to know what I'm talking about.

Also part of the collection is very sexy onesie, which is so hot you can't imagine. Picture the thing your granddad used to wear to bed (I know there's another word for it that escapes me now) but designed by Nice Collective and made out of soft, treated cotton. Hot hot hot. And let's not forget the two tone custom made boxers -- to die for -- and cufflinks that will make even the most casual among us want to dress up, even if just for one night.

As always, the boys keep it all under wraps, so don't expect to see any actual pieces from the line until their show next month here in New York, which you won't want to miss. How you're going to manage to get on the list? That I can't help you with, but hopefully I'll see you there.
