| Choose Chinatown + Cheap Monday Swedish label Cheap Monday -- the label that brought skinny jeans to the world -- is set to introduce a new line to the US for Spring/Summer 09 called WKND, a casual street wear line for men and women that will make its US debut at a new concept store in Los Angeles's Chinatown. Like Odin's concept store in New York -- DEN -- the pop up store will change its theme to keep things fresh. Mirroring today's anxious mood, the WKND collection invokes images of destruction in the form of earthquakes, flooding, typhoons, and volcanoes. In this dark reality, WKND designer Peter Jansson has created a stimulating collection of batwing jackets, leggings, tanks, and tees. The prints used in WKND SS09 are derived from real typhoon photographs and from hurricane shapes based on traditional lace patterns. The mix of modern photography with old world craftwork represents the axiom that in the face of destruction, people return to their roots. The complete Cheap Monday and WKND collections will be housed at Choose Chinatown, a new concept store created by the owners of Welcome Hunters and Lions Den, two fashion-forward retailers also located in Chinatown. The store will also carry Cheap Monday's other lines, Kostym and L.L. Vintage. Check out their website for more info. The store has its grand opening on 02.13.09. If you're in LA, you won't want to miss it. |
