On Pedder
There's this super hot shoe store based out of Hong Kong -- On Pedder -- I came across a while back and have been wanting to write about, but never quite got around to it. I just got an email announcing a sneak peak starting 01.20 running through 01.16.09 featuring Givenchy's Spring/Summer 2009 Accessories line. How chic.
This store is so Asia. It's high-end in a way that we don't really know in the US. The kind of store that would make Bergdorf's look a little like H&M. Well, kinda...
Established in 1996 in the heart of Hong Kong’s most prestigious shopping destination, On Pedder has built a reputation as Asia’s foremost source of designer footwear, handbags, fine jewelry and fashion accessories.
The sumptuously appointed On Pedder flagship store on historic Pedder Street in Central bears the minimalist lines and lavish touches of renowned New York-based architect, Calvin Tsao. Inspired by a jewel box filled with hidden treasures, Tsao designed the boutique to showcase precious seasonal collections by top international brands, including Alaïa, Alexander McQueen, Ann Demeulemeester, Balenciaga, Chloé, Christian Louboutin, Comme des Garcons, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Junya Watanabe, Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Marni, Miu Miu, Pierre Hardy, Repetto, Rick Owens, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent.
In short: they do not fuck around people!
They also carry items that showcase the art in fashion and that masters are still designing. Most of us are so far removed from this level of fashion, even most savvy urban dressers.
With boutiques in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, and Macau, On Pedder is a major style purveyor in Asia.
Check out their website and make sure to download and flip through the latest issue of Pedderzine -- their catalog in PDF format. The graphic design, the photography, and the shoes and accesories combined are an incredible sight. Hot hot hot.
