| Godard's Made in U.S.A. It only took 40 years, but finally the Godard film Made In U.S.A. is finally making its premiere in the US at Film Forum. How could that be?! Made in U.S.A. is a 1966 French film directed by Jean-Luc Godard. Greatly inspired by the Howard Hawks film The Big Sleep and unofficially based on the novel The Jugger, by Richard Stark (aka Donald E. Westlake), it stars Anna Karina, Jean-Pierre Léaud, László Szabó and Yves Afonso. Because neither Godard or the producer paid the book's adaptation rights and following legal action by Westlake, the film has been more or less unavailable in the United States. Read the full Wiki here. "The many shots of Anna Karina, with their wide variety of mood — each a different pose, angle, expression — serve as a catalogue of remembrances. The close-ups are the most expressive ones in color that Godard has made to date." says Richard Brody from the New Yorker. In short, the critics rave about this one so much that I kinda feel like I have to see it. Check out this page on Film Forum's site with the critics raves and for a synopsis of the film.
