| Teddy Boy Boots My ongoing obsession continues with the latest collection of boots -- and a few pair of shoes -- from Teddy Boy on the LES. It's amazing how much goes on in this city that I can't keep up with. How long has this store been open?? I gotta get out more. The British Teddy Boy subculture is typified by young men wearing clothes inspired by the styles of the Edwardian period, which Savile Row tailors had tried to re-introduce after World War II. The group got its name after a 1953 newspaper headline shortened Edward to Teddy and coined the term Teddy Boy (also known as Ted). The subculture started in London in the 1950s and rapidly spread across the UK, soon becoming strongly associated with American rock and roll music of the period. The Teddy Boys were the first youth group in England to differentiate themselves as teenagers, thus helping to create a youth market. Read more here. The store has a line of clothes and a line of boots with a few shoe styles thrown in. It's the boots that I'm into, not surprisingly. Check out the pics below. You can also see larger versions on their site. I'm not sure what they're doing to treat them, but the broken-in, beat-down thing is really hot.
