| Walter Van Beirendonck Is Back Need to add a little life to your spring wardrobe? I've got just the thing for you: something from the latest collection by Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck, who you may remember as the genius mind behind the late great line from the 90's W<. From the looks of the list of stockists on his site, Van Beirendonck's current line is doing quite well, selling at American Rag Cie, Dover Street Market, 10 Corso Como, Kokon To Zai, and at his own shop Walter, which you can see pics of here, in Antwerp. Born in Brecht, Belgium, Walter Van Beirendonck studied at the esteemed Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he developed his own aesthetic that fuses art and ethnic influences. Launching his first collection under his self-titled label in 1983, his big break came in 1987 where at the British Designer Show he presented as one part of the influential Antwerp Six. The group included Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester and Marina Yee. Beirendonck's collections draw on influences from art, music and literature and reflect strong and unique cuts with a daring use of graphics and colour. Check out pics and press info from past and current collections (this guy works non stop!), projects, and do some shopping from his webshop. If you don't find anything you like, check out the selection at the v-store (Henrik Vibskov's webshop) and at The Corner, where you'll find more designs to choose from. If you're feeling generous, get me one of those Body Sweat sweatshirts size L. My birthday's coming up in September after all! |
