| Nice Collective's Time Machine As always, Nice Collective serves up more than just fashion during their Fashion Week presentations. Never happy with giving us a standard show, in conjunction with the presentation for their Fall/Winter 2009 collection, the designers will present an installation entitled the Time Machine. In a culture where one is trained to constantly chase time, reverse its effects, fight the tide, deny the inevitable, Time is the ultimate luxury. One re-considers Time. The Time Machine installation by Nice Collective represents the designers' belief that art and fashion inspire one another. With a presentation that combines the traditional runway alongside a portal to another dimension, Time Machine invites us to pause for a moment and think about process. The actual piece has been carefully constructed taking inspiration from H.G. Wells, Orwellian contraptions and theories of new idealism. Nice Collective's creation will explore science, innovation and romance. The heart of the production will be the "machine" which was fabricated by hand in northern California by a group of artists and machinists guided by Nice Collective and Petaluma based artist Noah Elias. The show will integrate the story of their forward thinking design process by exposing the backstage workings and mechanics to the audience via epic staging, lighting and performance. Let's not get too distracted from what we're really looking forward to here: Nice Collective's Fall/Winter 2009 line, which I peeped a few weeks back when the boys were in town. The collection reflects influences from Victorian and American military dress, architecture and steampunk sensibility blended confidently in Nice Collective's distinct style. Make sure to check out their site for more info on the line and pics from previous collections. |
