The Black Keys @ McCarren Pool

I haven't been back to McCarren Pool since the Bloc Party / Secret Machines show 2 summers ago. After a killer time last night, I want to hangout there every night till they close it down for the season.

Lara got tickets for us to go see her favorite band -- The Black Keys -- at the pool last night. It couldn't have been better. Despite all of the press, McCarren Pool is still the best venue in the city in terms of crowd and physical space.

And let's talk about The Black Keys for a minute. These guys fucking rock. They're hands down one of the best rock n roll bands I've ever seen live, and it's only 2 guys!!

"The Black Keys are a blues-rock music duo consisting of Dan Auerbach (vocals and guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums and production) from Akron, Ohio. Auerbach and Carney both dropped out of college to pursue their musical career together. Before the band began selling, they took odd jobs, often mowing lawns and landscaping around Akron. The original plan for the band was to bring in a bassist and another guitarist, but they never showed up. Auerbach and Carney decided to play without them, and they decided that the two of them was enough." Read all about it here.

Don't forget to checkout their official site, their official bio, upcoming tour dates, and their MySpace, where you can test drive a few songs from their most recent EP Attack and Release, which was produced by none other than Danger Mouse.

The message I want to leave you with, though, is this: if you do nothing else, don't listen to MP3's or watch YouTube videos. GO SEE THE BLACK KEYS LIVE. They are unbelievable.
