Stuart Semple + Diesel: Love-in-idleness

I've known for a while now that Stuart Semple was working on a project with Diesel and Selfridges. He wrote to tell me that he got a load of denim delivered recently and was painting on it for an installation to be done at the London store next month.

What I'd pictured in my head was something akin to the Damien Hirst x Levis x Warhol demin collaboration. While I think painting on jeans is great and all -- albeit way played out -- I was excited for him and knew he'd do something new and fresh.

What I didn't realize is that he was painting ON demin, not painting on jeans. Instead of stretching raw canvas, he's stretched raw Deisel denim and painted on it as such. I hadn't a clue and am so excited that I've dropped everything to write about it minutes after he sent an email with a few images of the first piece entitled Love-in-idleness (Triptych) Acrylic, household gloss, charcoal and diamond dust on denim.

It's always the most simple ideas that are the most amazing. Using Diesel raw denim as canvas. GENIUS!!

I'll keep you posted as more info on the show comes in. Stay tuned!!
