David Byrne + Creative Time · Water In Milk Exists · Pass The Dutchie 1. This time he's playing the building, not burning down the house. David Byrne has teamed up with Creative Time to bring us Playing The Building. "Renowned artist David Byrne transforms the interior of the landmark Battery Maritime Building into a 9,000-square-foot interactive sound installation that all visitors are invited to play. The project consists of a retrofitted antique organ, placed in the center of the building's cavernous second-floor gallery, that controls a series of devices attached to its structural features—metal beams, plumbing, electrical conduits, and heating and water pipes." It opens Saturday, 05.31.08 from 6
-8pm and runs through 08.10.08. Click here for more info. Read
an interview with the artist. And don't forget to checkout some old Talking Heads videos: Once In A Lifetime (and you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack!), Burning Down The House, and Psycho Killer. 2. Finally, after all these years, text artist Lawrence Weiner is finally getting some respect. "In cooperation with the Swiss Institute, Lawrence Weiner teamed up with cinematographer Kiki Allgeier to realize WATER IN MILK EXISTS, a fresh skin flick that challenges both artistic and pornographic conventions." The opening is tonight from 6-8pm. Read the full press release here. If you're going to be at Art Basel in June, "the film will be officially launched during Art Basel on Tuesday June 3 2008, 10 PM to 12 AM at the Kino Mascotte". Don't miss it. 3. I don't know about you all, but my brain doesn't want to kick in today and I'm a little grumpy to say the very least. This totally made me happy though. Nothing like a little nostalgia to get the juices flowing. |
