Patti Smith + Fondation Cartier · Bacaro · Black Mountain · DSM Market 1. If you're lucky enough to be in Paris on 06.07.08, stop by Fondation Cartier (261, Boulevard Raspail) at 8:30pm for an accoustic performance by one of my favorite rockers Patti Smith. "Following their performance in April, Patti Smith and her band are returning to the Fondation Cartier for a new acoustic concert." Don't forget to stop by to checkout the show of her visual work up through 06.22.08. And you'll definitely not want to miss the New York premiere of Patti Smith Dream Of Life at Film Forum 08.06 - 08.19.08. Tickets available online beginnning July 30. 2. One thing that gets my goat: drinking wine anywhere, unless it's at home or there's an open bar. You pay $8 - 12 for a glass at most places and the amount they put in said glass is usually laughable. When a friend suggested we get wine last night, I had one requirement: we need to go somewhere with bang for buck. Her suggestion: Bacaro on the LES. For $12, I got a carafe of rose that was well worth it. On top of that, the space is amazing, right down to the spigots in the bathroom, which were my favorite part. I won't go into too much detail, because she begged me not to write about this, but if you get a chance, check it out. I'm not even going to give a link or the address. Google it. You'll love it. Trust me. 3. Not only was the wine situation at Bacaro amazing, but the music they played was spot on. Sure, they played the new Portishead, but that's semi predictable. What I wasn't expecting: the latest (In The Future) from Black Mountain, who even in indie music circles aren't the most well-known band. They are, though, one of my favorites in a genre that I call stoner rock. If you're not familiar with the band, checkout their MySpace and their official site to test drive a few songs. On their download page: Druganaut (from a previous EP, but insanely addictive) and Tyrants, from In The Future, kicks ass. It's still Black Mountain, but their sound has evolved and they've clearly spent a few more bucks on production and it shows. Check them out and buy their latest EP. And don't forget to check their tour page for dates. They're curiously not playing in New York, unless I'm missing something. They can go to Norway, but they're not stopping in NY?!? Hmmmmmm. 4. One of my most favorite stores in the world -- DOVER STREET MARKET -- is having a special two day sale on 05.25 and 05.26.08 from 10am - 7pm in the Phillips de Pury space (Howick Place Victoria London SW1) in London. The DOVER STREET MARKET Market. "A once in a blue moon shopping bonanza for two days only, bursting with exciting products from our amazing archive at stupendous prices. Vintage pieces from all Comme des Garçons collections between Fall Winter 2004 and Spring Summer 2007 plus Pierre Hardy, Martin Margiela, Raf Simons, Dior Homme, John Galliano, Nina Ricci, Undercover, Number (N)ine and many, many more...There will be regular deliveries of new items throughout the Market, so you will be certain to find something regardless of when you come." This is one you really don't want to miss because in reality, it happens less than once in a blue moon. Click here for a map of the location. |
