Prospect.1 New Orleans · Ghada Amer @ The Brooklyn Museum · Ju$t Kidding · Wolf Parade 1. New Orleans is going to be know for more than titties and weed? (Mardi Gras and Jazzfest for those of you who can't read my mind) Curator extraordinaire Dan Cameron is behind a new biennial called Prospect.1 New Orleans. "On November 1, 2008, Prospect.1 New Orleans, the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the United States, will open to the public in museums, historic buildings, and found sites throughout New Orleans. Prospect.1 New Orleans has been conceived in the tradition of the great international biennials, and will showcase new artistic practices as well as an array of programs benefiting the local community." Hot! Read all about it here. Artists participating: Ghada Amer, Cai Guo Qiang, Arturo Herara, Shirin Neshat, Pierre et Gilles, John Pilson, and many many more. Click here for the full list. Rumor has it the folks at Fake Estate are in talks with my friend Jac Currie to bring the gallery to NO for the event. More info on that as it progresses. See you in New Orleans. 2. Speaking of Ghada Amer (who happens to be one of my favorite artists) ... She's got a show up now at the Brooklyn Museum called Love Has No End. "Ghada Amer: Love Has No End, the first U.S. survey of the renowned artist’s work, features some fifty pieces from every aspect of Amer’s career as a painter, sculptor, illustrator, performer, garden designer, and installation artist. These include the iconic Barbie Loves Ken, Ken Loves Barbie (1995/2002), The Reign of Terror (2005), and Big Black Kansas City Painting-RFGA (2005), as well as a generous selection of works never before exhibited in this country." She's the one who got popular with the really hot drippy embroidered works featuring steamy sex scenes. There's lots on the BK Museum's site to checkout: a video of the artist and her work, a podcast of a talk with the artist, and a slideshow of the artwork. Don't forget to checkout this video of her work on YouTube and her page on Gagosian's site. 3. You all know I love SNL's Kristin Wiig. She's unbelievable. First there was Penelope. Now there's Judy Grimes. Just kidding. Check it out before NBC and SNL have it pulled. They're f'in Nazis when it comes to that. This clip is hysterical. Just kidding. 4. Remember Wolf Parade? They were my favorite band for a good 6 months and then they kinda disappeared. For a long time. Well, they're back. Not only do they have a new EP coming out (see here for more details), but they're on tour! And supposedly the EP leaked as of yesterday. Checkout their Wikipedia entry for all the details and their MySpace to listen to one of the new tracks and some of the golden oldies. And don't forget to get tickets (they go on sale this Friday 05.02.08 at noon) to see them at Terminal 5 on 07.31.08 in New York. This heart's on fire. This heart's on fire. |
