agnès b. + Film Forum · Beautiful Losers · Art Book Swap 1. She's the fashion designer with a huge penchant for art who constantly puts her money where her mouth is. I'm speaking, of course, of agnès b. From 05.05 to 06.05.08, Film Forum presents Godard's 60's, with the support of aggie b. "Throughout the 1960s, cinephiles eagerly awaited the latest film — or two— by Jean-Luc Godard (born 1930). A founding father of the nouvelle vague, the former critic was its most innovative in form, with each new work seemingly rewriting the grammar of film." Die hard cinephiles will not want to miss this. Included in the lineup: Breathless, Two Or Three Things I Know About Her, Pierrot Le Fou, A Woman Is A Woman, Made In USA, and Band Of Outsiders. Click here for more info, showtimes, and movie descriptions. You definitely won't want to miss the 8:20pm screening of Breathless on 05.02.08, which will be introduced by Miss b. to kickoff the five-week festival. 2. Speaking of art and film, I'm going to a press screening of Beautiful Losers tomorrow. "First a traveling museum exhibition and book, Beautiful Losers is an intimate and moving assessment of underappreciated yet wildly influential art movement of outcasts such as Aaron Rose, Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, Stephen Powers, Geoff McFetridge, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton. Informed by their individual experiences and the generation's 'Do It Yourself' culture, these artists left an indelible mark on the worlds of fashion, music, literature, film and ironically, sports. The story of Beautiful Losers is a retrospective celebration of their contribution to artistic independence." Checkout the trailer and dates of screenings here. Don't miss this 1995 interview with Korine on the Late Show with David Letterman. 3. In LA? Got some art books you want to get rid of? Want to trade them for other art books? Checkout NADA's Art Book Swap. "The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and Regency Arts Press Ltd., will be co-sponsoring an Art Book Swap at LACMA on Saturday, May 3rd from Noon to 5pm. This is the first Art Book Swap to be held in Los Angeles. Art Book Swap is simple in practice: people bring art books and swap for other books that have been collected from a wide variety of donors." Click here for more details. Books or not, check it out! It will be a great place to checkout other people who are interested in art in LA, instead of the usual crowd of industry people and their hangers-on. |
