Ju$t Another Rich Kid + Opus Art/Graffiti Research Lab @ MoMA/Koons @ The Met 1. If you're unfamiliar with UK artsite Opus Art, check it out now. They sell limited edition prints and pieces of art by some of the biggest names in the artworld: Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Christo, Maurizio Cattelan, Gibert & George, Damien Hirst, Murakami, Warhol, and Tim Noble and Sue Webster. Just added: the 7 Deadly Sins necklaces and Untitled: The Heartbreakers + The Ramones dyptichs by Ju$t Another Rich Kid. (See a better pic of the prints on JARK's site here.) There are only 20 of the custom silk screened prints available, signed and dated by the artist. Get 'em while they're hot. Don't forget to checkout Opus Underground and Opus Interiors, as well as the current show that's up in their brick and mortar gallery called Art Of Rock, which features the Ju$t Another Rich Kid prints, as well as works by Peter Blake, Banksy, Faille, Warhol, and Damien Hirst. 2. MoMA's got more cool films on the horizon. On 05.04.08, they're hosting a "screening of Graffiti Research Lab: The Complete First Season, a film documenting the adventures of an architect and an engineer who quit their day jobs to develop high-tech tools for the art underground. Featuring insightful and humorous commentary by GRL founders James Powderly and Evan Roth, The Complete First Season argues for free speech in public, open source in pop culture, the hacker spirit in graffiti, and not asking permission in general. The film premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival." Read all about it here and get tickets here. Don't forget to checkout the official Graffiti Research Lab site. 3. It's Spring! Time for a drink on the roof at The Met, where Jeff Koons on the Roof opens today and runs through 10.26.08. The show features three (3) of the artist's larger-than-life laquered stainless steel sculptures, which are some of my favorite pieces. Checkout this piece in the NYTimes today, where the guy pretty much trashes the setting for the show, but says it's worth seeing none-the-less because of the pieces, which I couldn't agree more with. Outside or in, I will see Balloon Dog (Yellow) before Fall, preferably during the evening with a glass of wine or four in front of me. |
