Sack Of Bones @ ASS/What Are You Wearing Today/Paul Mpagi Sepuya 1. Terence Koh and Javier Peres have teamed up for a show at ASS (Asia Song Society) called Sack Of Bones, which opens tonight and runs through 05.02.07. "The group exhibition Sack of Bones comes from a viewing of Paul Rachman's 2006 film, American Hardcore, in which Mark Flood appears as an interviewee on the topic of 1980's punk rock. The tone of the film is reverent, to be sure, but more than an ode, the voices in the film present conflicting parts pride, humor, fraternity, anger, bitterness, nostalgia, and what are often doleful mechanisms for dealing with the here-and-now.?" Artists included: Anthony Burdin, Bruce LaBruce, Daniel McDonald, Andrew Rogers, Agathe Snow, Donald Urquhart and Banks Violette. Check it out! 2. What Are You Wearing Today?, a year-long project by Sidney Lo, opens Thursday 03.27.08 and is on view through 04.19.08. Don't miss the opening party from 6-8 pm at the Photography & Imaging Department, Tisch School of the Arts, 721 Broadway (at 12th Street), 8th floor. "What are you wearing today? originates from the popular superfuture supertalk messageboard. Alongside being one of the foremost resources for Japanese-made reproductions of classic American jeans, the site features a thread affectionately known as WAYWT which spans thousands of pages containing photographs documenting what superfuture's members are wearing each and every day." Lo took it one step further, photographing himself (and his outfits) daily for a year, which, when shown all together is not only an interesting look at fashion, but a self-portrait comprised of 365 photos and clothing combinations. See you at the opening. 3. Another photographer whose work you should checkout is Paul Mpagi Sepuya. The prolific New York photographer is showing a new installation featuring the new video, Christian (2008), and photography at the Pulse Art Fair, which begins in New York this Thursday 03.27.08. Checkout his blog for more info on his current and past projects, and don't forget his website, which features work he's done over the past several years, including a sneak peak at Christian (from SHOOT No. 7), the video that will premiere at the Pulse Art Fair later in the week. Don't forget to checkout Envoy Gallery, who represent Sepuya and have a roster of hot artists. |
