The Assassination Of Barack + Hillary/Bauhaus Go Away White 1. I love a little controversy. Actually, I like A LOT of controversy, especially when it comes to art. I got a press release a bit back for an installation by Yazmany Arboleda-- whose photos The New Vitruvians hung in the Tribeca Issey Miyake store last Fall -- called The Assassination of Hillary Clinton and The Assassination of Barack Obama. "The installations (featured individually at two separate galleries in Chelsea) are largely inspired by the media and public response to the first serious woman and African American presidential campaigns in the United States. They deal with sensitive subject matter. As such, they are being viewed by appointment only. However, you may view both installations, in their entirety, by going to www.theassassinationofhillaryclinton.com and www.theassassinationofbarackobama.com." Not quite. I just checked out the sites to get more info and the installation is currently closed due to pending legal action. Go to the sites anyway to see pics of the works included. No word on when/if the shows will reopen. Keep checking back. As soon as we hear something, we'll let you know. 2. Guess which of my favorite bands has a new EP out today? Bauhaus!!! I honestly can't believe it. The last Bauhaus album was 1983's Burning From The Inside. "Helping give birth to a new genre in the late '70s, Bauhaus was crucial in developing the genetic code of what was to become goth rock. Recently, singer Peter Murphy, bassist David J, guitarist Daniel Ash, and drummer Kevin Haskins reunited in Ojai, California, for 18 days to create their swan song, Go Away White, the band's first album since 1983. The chief architects of goth lay to rest Murphy's beautiful, haunting vocals, J's dub bass, and Ash's minimalist guitar and throw roses on the coffin with tracks such as Saved, Black Stone Heart, and Endless Summer of the Damned." You can buy it on Amazon or download it from iTunes. Or download it from somewhere else. In the meantime, test drive a few songs on the official Bauhaus MySpace. 3. check back shortly for updates... |
