Prospect.1 New Orleans · Ghada Amer @ The Brooklyn Museum · Ju$t Kidding · Wolf Parade

1. New Orleans is going to be know for more than titties and weed? (Mardi Gras and Jazzfest for those of you who can't read my mind) Curator extraordinaire Dan Cameron is behind a new biennial called Prospect.1 New Orleans.

2. Speaking of Ghada Amer (who happens to be one of my favorite artists) ... She's got a show up now at the Brooklyn Museum called Love Has No End.

3. You all know I love SNL's Kristin Wiig. She's unbelievable. First there was Penelope. Now there's Judy Grimes. Just kidding.

4. Remember Wolf Parade? They were my favorite band for a good 6 months and then they kinda disappeared. For a long time. Well, they're back. Not only do they have a new EP coming out (see here for more details), but they're on tour!

agnès b. + Film Forum · Beautiful Losers · Art Book Swap

1. She's the fashion designer with a huge penchant for art who constantly puts her money where her mouth is. I'm speaking, of course, of agnès b. From 05.05 to 06.05.08, Film Forum presents Godard's 60's, with the support of aggie b.

2. Speaking of art and film, I'm going to a press screening of Beautiful Losers tomorrow. "First a traveling museum exhibition and book, Beautiful Losers is an intimate and moving assessment of underappreciated yet wildly influential art movement of outcasts such as Aaron Rose, Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Mike Mills, Barry McGee, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine, Stephen Powers, Geoff McFetridge, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton."

3. In LA? Got some art books you want to get rid of? Want to trade them for other art books? Checkout NADA's Art Book Swap.

Nice Collective Sample Sale · Berlin's Art Bunker · Gunnin' For That #1 Spot

1. Mark your calendars, Nice Collective is having their semi-annual sample sale in San Francisco on Sunday, June 01 from 12 - 5pm (Treat Avenue @ 19th Street). Recently named one of America's top menswear designers, this sale is sure to sell out fast, as anyone who's been in the past knows. * For those of you who may not click to the next page (gasp!!), keep your eyes peeled, we'll be giving away VIP passes to the sale and t-shirts very soon.

2. As if there aren't enough reasons to visit Berlin already, a new private museum is opening in what used to be a Nazi bunker.

3. Somehow in my list of Tribeca Film Festival recommendations a week or so back, I overlooked the Beastie Boy Adam Yauch directed film Gunnin' For That #1 Spot.

Saturdays@Phillips

1. If you've got a penchant for modern art and a bit of cash to burn, you'll definitely want to stop by Phillips de Pury (450 West 15 Street) today for Saturdays@Phillips for the Contemporary Art, Photographs, Design, Jewelry featuring Art Toys, Watches and Fashion auction. The space opens at 9am and the auctions are at 10am and 2pm. No need to be intimidated, this auction (and from what I gather the Saturdays@Phillips series) is full of amazing works (think prints, editions, pieces from series) by major artists for much less than you'd think.

Who Would You Rather Play Naked Twister With: Perez or ???

Alright folks, you've had it easy so far and you know it: Mischa Barton, Jesse Metcalfe, Evan Rachel Wood, Lindsay Lohan, and John Mayer. Those days are over! This week I'm making it a little harder, although, if the truth be told, not by much.

Doc Martens Boot Contest/Party Of Life 2008/If Looks Could Kill/Earliest Oil Paintings Discovered

1. Create. Nominate. Dominate. Dr. Martens is back at it this year with The Brief, an online contest that challenges the public to create the design for the next Dr. Martens boot. Artists start your engines.

2. Speaking of Keith Haring, Christina Visca and The Keith Haring Foundation are hosting a party at Pascha on 05.04.08 called "THE PARTY OF LIFE 2008".

3. Beginning 05.10 and running through 05.31.08, the Tate Modern's running a must-see film festival for any art and fashion lover. "From stolen pearls to a glove left at the scene of the crime, from an excess of red lipstick to the postmodern gangster silhouette, the 2nd Fashion in Film Festival: If Looks Could Kill: Cinema's Images of Fashion, Crime and Violence explores the compelling links between cinema, fashion, crime and violence."

4. Move over Dutch masters. Scientists have found what they described this week as the earliest oil paintings ever discovered. Where? The Bamiyan region of Afghanistan. (Clears throat)

John Waters + Crybaby/Chris Kettle/Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret/Haring Mural On Houston

1. Everyone knows I love me some John Waters. Although it was a boxoffice bomb, Cry Baby is tops on my list. I mean if for no other reason that Traci Lords, Iggy Pop, and Patty Hearst are in it.

2. I've just come across a UK artist on Opus Art's website and am in love with his work. "Brighton painter Chris Kettle is notorious for his subversive approach to still life and his recent work draws inspiration from the work of the Dutch Masters."

3. Are you there God? It's Me, Margaret. Please make Hillary Clinton go away. Before Friday would be great. I promise I'll floss every day. Thanks.

4. There's a bit of good news for the yuppie-blighted area near Houston and Bowery. "A 1980s New York city street mural by the artist Keith Haring that lasted only a few months may soon be repainted."

Ju$t Another Rich Kid + Opus Art/Graffiti Research Lab @ MoMA/Koons @ The Met

1. If you're unfamiliar with UK artsite Opus Art, check it out now. They sell limited edition prints and pieces of art by some of the biggest names in the artworld: Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Christo, Maurizio Cattelan, Gibert & George, Damien Hirst, Murakami, Warhol, and Tim Noble and Sue Webster. Just added: the 7 Deadly Sins necklaces and Untitled: The Heartbreakers + The Ramones dyptichs by Ju$t Another Rich Kid. (See a better pic of the prints on JARK's site here.)

2. MoMA's got more cool films on the horizon. On 05.04.08, they're hosting a "screening of Graffiti Research Lab: The Complete First Season, a film documenting the adventures of an architect and an engineer who quit their day jobs to develop high-tech tools for the art underground."

3. It's Spring! Time for a drink on the roof at The Met, where Jeff Koons on the Roof opens today and runs through 10.26.08. The show features three (3) of the artist's larger-than-life laquered stainless steel sculptures, which are some of my favorite pieces.

Bad Brains + Supreme/Other Criteria Artist Tees

1. It's like every collaboration trumps the one before it with Supreme these days. First it was Jeff Koons, then Richard Prince, and most recently Marilyn Minter. Guess who's coming to dinner this time? Bad Brains. (Probably the only all black hardcore punk rock band ever!)

2. Damien Hirst's artsite Other Criteria is at it again. On the block: editions of tees originally made to coincide with the RED Auction at Sotheby's.

Who Would You Rather Do It With: Perez Or ???

Hollywood hottie Evan Rachel Wood always seems to get the short end of Perez Hilton's stick. He refers to her as Evan Rachel Whore. Why? Who knows. Call me old-fashioned, but why would you ever call someone that publicly?

Never having met her personally, all I can judge her on are her acting abilities and her looks, which, as far as I can tell, are pretty damn good. Checkout the latest pics of her from GQ to get an idea for yourself.

MM Paris/Tretorn + Hus/Tretorn Mid Canvas

1. One of my favorite graphic design/artist teams - M/M (Paris) - have updated the selection of posters available for sale from their site. "M/M (Paris) is a partnership between Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, founded in 1992. Working within the framework and language of design, these artists manifest a diverse practice across the fields of art, music, and fashion."

2. By now everyone knows that Puma bought Tretorn a few years back. So far, nothing major has changed with the design or branding, which is exactly the way it should be. The only noticeable difference is a huge push to bring Tretorn to the attention of the American consumer and given what's going on in the sneaker market right now, the timing couldn't be any better.

3. I've just checked out the latest selection of Tretorn styles on Hus' site and am really into a few of the new styles, specifically the Mid Canvas (these are my favorites) and the Tournament Sail.

McDermott & McGough/DRV-IN/Everything Must GO

1. If you're in Dublin, stop by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (who knew?) for a show of photographs by New York artists McDermott & McGough. (You know those two guys who pretend like it's 1900 and live their lives within the limitations of that time period.)

2. Remember DRV-IN? The bad news: the space rotates, so DRV-IN wasn't meant to last forever. The good news: DRV-IN is moving to a new location and won't die. No word yet on the new location, but keep checking their site. Also, they're doing something called Cars Under The Stars.

3. Everything Must GO is the new endeavor by the folks at 139 Norfolk. "Everything Must GO will open on Saturday at 139 Norfolk Street with treasures auctioned to the highest bidder. Preview the goods at the store, Tuesday - Friday, 12 noon - 8 pm, or visit our website and peruse the inventory at your leisure. Then, on Saturday, come for the sport, the spectacle, a numbered paddle fetish, or just to get something unique. Every Saturday no offer will be refused."

Midnight Cowboy @ Film Forum/Creative Time Benefit/Casualties Of Beauty @ Fake Estate

1. I've never seen Midnight Cowboy on the big screen and am due to see it again. Not quite sure I'd call Film Forum's screens big, but you catch my drift.

2. Feel like dressing "travel chic" (I swear I'm not making that up) and attending a Creative Time Benefit? Sounds awesome, for sure, but you've gotta pony up $1,500 per person if you wanna play that reindeer game. Not sure about you, but that's more than my monthly rent. If I had money, I'd skip the party and put my money where my mouth is and bid on one of the works in the silent auction.

3. Speaking of art, there's a show on at Fake Estate (525 w. 26th St. Suite 502A) called Casualties Of Beauty with new works by painter Sarah Chuldenko. (Make sure to checkout the works on her site) "A provocative collision of buoyant breasts, carnivorous plants, topographic flesh, oil slicks, and roadside IED's, Chuldenko's sensational paintings simultaneously depict phoenix totems of creation and destruction, with a hint of irony."

Apartamento Magazine/Paul Mpagi Sepuya Book Release/Reprise + MoMA

1. I've never known Italians to be lacking for words, but I guess I was wrong. I just got an invite for Apartamento Magazine's opening party. The tagline: an everyday life interiors magazine. That's it.

2. I love a book release party at The Cock (29 Second Avenue at 2nd Street). One of my new favorite photographers - Paul Mpagi Sepuya - hosts a party there tomorrow for his hot-off-the-presses BELOVED OBJECT & AMOROUS SUBJECT, REVISITED.

3. Wow. I just watched the trailer for Reprise, a 2006 film by Norwegian Joachim Trier that was an official selection of both the 2007 New Directors/New Films festival and the Sundance Film Festival.

Robert Geller @ Den/Grom Downtown/Zombie Strippers

1. Odin's ever-changing pop up shop, Den, soft-launched Robert Geller's menswear line last week. When I stopped by on Thursday, the clerk said there was more coming and to check back this weekend. I stopped by today and sure enough: she was right!

2. Grom - New York's one and only celebrity gelato shop - has finally moved downtown, opening up shop at Bleecker and Carmine. "Grom is synonymous with gelato of the highest quality. The idea is to apply a principle common to all the best restaurants in the world to the production of handmade gelato: the purchase of raw materials of absolute top quality."

3. I have a feeling this one's going to be as good (bad good) as Showgirls. Opening 04.18.08, Zombie Strippers stars the one and only Jenna Jameson. You'll remember Jenna from her star performances in Up And Cummers 1-20, On Her Back, and I Love Lesbians.

Who Would You Rather Cuddle With: Perez Or ???

Senor Nasty (Perez Hilton) is at it again. This time, he's picking on Mischa Barton for having cellulite.

And I quote: "How can such a skinny girl have so much cellulite???? Drunk-driver Mushy Fartone celebrates avoiding a jail sentence by indulging in some shopping in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Unfortunately for her, she flashed a little more than she should have to the paparazzi. Be careful Mischa, you've got the fat genes in your family. Antony + Hercules And Love Affair/The Universe Of Keith Haring/Bra Boys

1. In case you missed it, checkout Blind, a single from Hercules And Love Affair featuring vocals by Antony. It's hot.

2. Although I still have a soft spot for Keith Haring and his work, I OD'd on it in the 80's and 90's and have a tough time appreciating it now like I did when he became my first favorite artist. Hopefully things will come back around soon. I am excited though to see The Universe Of Keith Haring, which is showing at the Tribeca Film Festival beginning at the end of this month.

3. Surf's up. Russel Crowe-narrated film Bra Boys opens tomorrow at the Quad (34 West 13th St btwn University and 5th). "Bra Boys documents the cultural evolution of the inner-Sydney beach-side suburb of Maroubra and the social struggle of its youth--the tattooed and much maligned surf community known as the Bra Boys. Explores their success in professional big wave surfing, their international reputation for hard partying and rough justice, and touches on their running battle with authorities. The film shows their absolute reliance on one another to fit into a society in which they are displaced and, at times, disinterested."

Stalags @ Film Forum/B-Side Recorded/CBGB + John Varvatos

1. Ever heard of Stalags? Me either. "It was one of Israel's dirty little secrets. In the early 1960s, as Israelis were being exposed for the first time to the shocking testimonies of Holocaust survivors at the trial of Adolf Eichmann, a series of pornographic pocket books called Stalags, based on Nazi themes, became best sellers throughout the land... The books told perverse tales of captured American or British pilots being abused by sadistic female SS officers outfitted with whips and boots."

2. Damien Hirst's artsite - Other Criteria - keeps killer work coming in -- and selling out. Of note this month: a series of one off editions by Johannes Albers entitled B-Side Recorded.

3. It's official: after months of being an empty storefront with no awning above it, the old CBGB's space is now a John Varvatos store. It could be worse: it could be another bank, although, as we all know, banks only pick corner spots, which has its pros and cons.

F*ck My Brain/Agathe Snow + Terence Koh @ Peres Projects/The Ice Cream Show

1. I just can't get enough Palais De Tokyo. It's one of the very few reasons I'd ever say "I wish I lived in Paris". And we all know the Parisians love nothing more than New York and Americans. Although they'd never say that, their actions speak for themselves.

2. If you're in LA, stop by Peres Projects to see New York artist Agathe Snow's show Moving, featuring new sculpture and video. Don't forget to mark your calendars: the man that put Peres Projects on the map - Terence Koh - will return to LA (05.10 - 06.21.08) for a show called The Whole Family.

3. Last but not least, Galleri Loyal in Stockholm has an opening this Friday, 04.11.08 from 6-9 pm with special guest DJs Konichiwa Bitches.

Clinic's New EP/Fred Perry &Son/Ryan McGuiness @ PS1

1. I'm having a hard time believing it: one of my favorite bands from forever ago have come out with a new EP. I thought they'd disappeared forever, but alas, the members of Clinic have risen from the dead. "For the past decade, Clinic have not only worn weird surgical masks, they've also made some of the eeriest indie rock albums around. Listen to their latest, Do It, on MySpace."

2. Fred Perry has a new Blank Canvas Project line out for Spring/Summer 08. "&Son is a creative practice established in 2007 by the stylists Simon Foxton and Nick Griffiths.

3. New York artist Ryan McGinness "will be exhibiting a 200 foot long panoramic mural in the courtyard of P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center beginning March 24th May 3rd, 2008."

Aloha Rag in NYC/Mr Lonely/Dan Flavin

1. One of my favorite stores -- Aloha Rag -- from Honolulu is coming to New York this week. From their staff blog: "You've probably already heard about our new boutique. Aloha Rag (New York) will be located at 505 Greenwich Street, walking distance from Soho. We are very excited to bring our spirt and ideas to this area, offering a different twist on fashion developed right here in Honolulu."

2. Art lover agnès b. is hosting an exhibit at her LA store (100 N Robertson) of photographs by Brent Stewart of the actors from Harmony Korine's latest film Lonely Man on Friday 04.11.08 from 6-8 pm. Wanna go?

3. Everyone knows I could never in a lifetime get enough Dan Flavin. Lucky for me, there's a show on now through 05.03.08 at Zwirner & Wirth (New York) entitled The 1964 Green Gallery Exhibition.

Insomnia Cookies/Calexico Carne Asada/Man Man

1. I can't remember all of the details, but I remember being able to order warm cookie and a pint of Ben & Jerry's and have it delivered to your dorm room or apartment when I was at Cornell. A company started in 2003 called Insomnia Cookies provides the same service, minus the Ben & Jerry's, which is probably for the best.

2. As a friend, who I know from my short SF stint a few years back, and I were drunkenly eating at San Loco last night (horrible food, but we were drunk), the inevitable East Coast/West Coast topic arose. Who's got better Mexican? The answer is obvious and I've come to terms with it. As much as I love New York, we can't touch California when it comes to Mexican.

2. The Chelsea Hotel is legendary. (and like everything else in New York that's cool or interesting is falling prey to the evils of greedy developers.) I have to admit, though, I've never been inside. powerHouse Books has a book coming out Inside: The Chelsea Hotel featuring photos by Julia Calfee.
