marco brambilla We had the best intentions of attending the opening for the StandART Channel @ the Standard in New York on Friday. No names mentioned, but a few of our friends were a little (aka ALOT) late getting ready and we just didn’t make it out on time. I guess we’ll have to get a room to see all 10 videos instead.

Starting March 5th, The Standard Hotels along with Creative Time are proud to present an in-room video art exhibit featuring the work of 10 renowned international video artists. The StandART Channel debuted at The Standard, New York this past Friday and will continue doling out its viewing pleasures at the three other properties in Los Angeles and Miami.

The StandART channel is the realization of both organization’s ongoing commitment to presenting innovative art in the public realm. Each video, handpicked for the installation, is a visual orgasm culminating in the pure emotion of what it’s like to live in the city.

Marilyn Minter’s Green Pink Caviar focuses on the representations and ramifications of glamour while Marco Brambilla never ceases to amaze us with his internationally acclaimed work in video. Our most favorite is by Lee Walton entitled F’Book, What My Friends Are Doing On Facebook. This piece uses Facebook status updates of Walton’s friends as scripts for video re-enactments depicting scenarios that are taken to absurdly literal extremes.

Check out the Stanard’s site for more info. If you missed the opening too, let us know. Maybe we can get a room together. Champagne’s on us.
