Rober Geller | SS10 Backstage

Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to Robert Geller‘s SS10 show on last Friday. It was cold and raining and I had to decompress after a long day. I did, though, send Cody Turner over to Exit Art take some backstage pics of the models — which you can check out by clicking through — and have heard all of the reviews of the collection and, as always, it was a big hit.
For his Spring/Summer 2010 collection, Robert took inspiration from Germany in the late ’50s – a country working hard to start anew and leave the past behind. Robert imagined a hopeful country that, through the economic miracle of the 1950s known as the Wirtschaftswunder, began to see a better future emerge out of a troubled era.
The collection features rich shades such as petroleum and midnight blues, olive, mustard and dusty plum – bright colors emerging from the dark. Through unique tone on tone patterns, Robert achieved a new take on color blocking and wants the colors of the collection to remind wearers of the redemptive power of Spring and the season’s spirit of renewal.
Robert focused on comforting materials for the collection, emphasizing a washed, soft quality in his cashmere, silks, jersey and fine spun cotton to make pieces that are cozy and inviting. The clothes offer a playful take on Robert’s signature tailoring and feature cleverly engineered surprises hidden in each piece.
Robert describes the look of this collection to be how he “would have liked German men of the 1950s to dress when vacationing at the North Sea.
I just finished curating a photoshoot for Zoot magazine of New York taste makers, including Geller, shot by Paul Mpagi Sepuya. It’ll appear in their Winter issue. I’ll be sure to post the pics as soon as I can. Keep your eyes peeled.
