Tuesday Night Band Practice

Tuesday Night Band Practice (TNBP) was born when 4 designers from the UK and Australia (one of whom is rumored to be one of the original Ksubi designers) met and bonded over their love of fashion and music.

The line consists of tailoring and suiting, denim, knits, and, of course, the super hot tees. The fit, fabric, details and graphics on these tees all look right on point.

They are now stocked in over 70 stores globally, including Harvey Nichols, Loveless, Feathers, Pollyanna, and And-A.

Charles has been in touch with them and they’ve graciously agreed to give away 2 tees this week! Unfortunately, we don’t have the exact pics of the tees, but trust us, they’re hot.

Odin EDT

We’re not sure when it launched or how we missed it, but this has been out for a bit. How do we know? We walk by Odin almost daily and we’ve seen the bottles in the window, but, as not to torment ourselves by going in stores to look at hot clothes we can’t afford, we haven’t stopped in lately to check out their new lines of scents aptly named Odin EDT. It’s an acronym for Eau de Toilette, for those not well-versed in the lingo of perfume.

Odin EDT comes in three scents:

Nomad — Under the spice trade routes comes an exotic wealth of rare scents. Nomad attracts rich notes of juniper berries and cedar leaves from the high regions of the Himalayan Mountains with mysterious Palmarosa and spicy black pepper. Lingering in the air is the warmth of tonka beans blended with the sultry seduction of sandalwoods from the West Indian shores.

Owari — From the far ends of the earth comes a fragrance transparent in nature. Owari opens up with rare mandarins from the Japanese province of Owari and freshly crushed grapefruit leaves. The heart consists of the intensely vibrant Cubeb pepper and Tonkin musk from the Chinese mountains

Woodpigeon

Check out Canadian indie band Woodpigeon.

Woodpigeon is more than just the most beautiful word in the English language, although that’s precisely why it was chosen by songwriter Mark Hamilton as the moniker for his pretty-pretty-pop project. Encompassing a kind of ersatz collective orchestra, dispersed across a couple continents, rising and falling in number with the demands of song life and real life, Woodpigeon creates music much the same way a bowerbird crafts a lovenest: the right space is chosen and the bower goes up twig by twig, berry by berry, embellishing a basic construction that’s already sound and lovely.

They rock out on harpsichords and wrench tears out of guitars before playing them damp. Bells, whistles, handclaps – all the aural tchotchkes are enlisted to serve the song, wherever they can brighten a melody or limn a mournful line. Girlish voices become instruments, while Mark’s lonely choirboy vocals – somehow, impossibly, lodged in a lumberjack-ish bear of a man – sound uncannily like they’re being sung directly into your ear.

Lykke Li

We recently downloaded a remix of a Lykke Li song that — and we know we say this a lot, but — we cannot stop listening to it. 52 times in 3 weeks. While not a record breaker, it’s pretty good.

Remember Lykke Li?? Just checking. With the pace music moves these days, it seems like eons ago that we went through out Lykke Li phase; when in actuality, it was probably a year or so ago, if that. Well, there’s a song called Breaking It Up from the 2008 record Youth Novels, which we remember from the record, but didn’t give much time.

Enter Brooklyn producer/dj Pocketknife, who remixed the track and turned it into something hot and 10 times better than the original without sounding like a “remix”.

We’d post the song here, but we really want you to check it out on Pocketknife’s MySpace since he’s the reason it’s so damn good! And don’t forget Lykke on MySpace. She still rocks too.

We ♡ these sneakers by YSL. (And you may have noticed that we’re kinda into this little heart symbol we learned the html code for last weekend. We ♡ it!!)

Come to think of it, we’re not entirely sure they should be announcing that the sneakers are made of calf skin and perhaps we shouldn’t be posting it for animal treatment reasons??? Are calf skin sneakers the veal of the fashion world? We hope not b/c they’re hot. If it’s bad, please forgive us. We have our YSL goggles on.

Check them out and get yourself a pair from LUISA VIA ROMA’s eShop.

Jeff Buckley

It’s strange how our musical tastes have changed — evolved??? — over the years.

Back when Jeff Buckley was making music, we were so musically in a different place than we are now. As it stands, given our current musical taste, we’ve recently become huge fans of the deceased New York indie rocker, and it wasn’t until reading his wiki just now that we even realized he had died. Unfortunate, to say the least.

Jeffrey Scott Buckley was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. After a decade as guitarist-for-hire in Los Angeles, Buckley gained popularity in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan’s East Village, such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and his father’s manager Herb Cohen, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace.

We’ve just found a cool new menswear line out of Berlin called Klar Berlin that you need to check out. It’s carried at the super cool Chicago boutique Gamma Player, which is owned by mega DJ Jeff Mills. Gamma Player also carries other lines we love, including Obscur, Julius, and Odeur.

Japanese designer Naoki Koketsu has lived in East Berlin for 8 years. After getting personal orders for his designs from Jeff Mills and from Australian metal band Wolf Mother, the menswear designer decided to start a proper line. It’s from East Berlin that Koketsu designs, combining the aesthetics of his Japanese heritage with his current place of residence for a “Made in Japan/Created in Berlin” look.

Check out Klar Berlin’s site for more information on the line. (more…)
